- your documents are in a language other than English or French
- your documents contain both English and French – if parts of your document contain multiple languages, they will require translation
- in some cases, foreign embassies/consulates may also require additional translation into their official languages

Global Affairs Canada requires all translations to be performed by a certified translator – all certified translations include a seal and signature of the translator.
Capital Authentication only uses certified translators who are recognised by the CTTIC (Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council) member organisations, or OTTIAQ in Quebec*.
- Alberta: Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta (ATIA)
- British Columbia: Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia (STIBC)
- Manitoba: Association of Translators, terminologists and Interpreters of Manitoba (ATIM)
- New Brunswick: Corporation of Translators,Terminologists and Interpreters of New Brunswick (CTINB)
- Nova Scotia: Association of Translators and Interpreters of Nova Scotia (ATINS)
- Ontario: Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario (ATIO)
- Saskatchewan: Association of Translators and Interpreters of Saskatchewan (ATIS)
* For documents issued in Iqaluit, Northwest Territories, or Yukon, certified translators are governed by CTTIC directly.
